Trilhas do Mirante project

Projeto Trilhas do Mirante
The Viewpoint Tracks Project began in 2002 and its initial purpose was to diminish environment degradation in Morro do Mirante (Viewpoint Mount), between the beaches of Paúba and Maresias, in the North coast of São Paulo.

Our challenge was to recover this landscape that was in an advanced degradation stage due to deforestation and erosion. We also wanted to improve the access of inhabitants and tourists to the tracks, and involve them into our activities. Our group worked on the field for over 2 years.

Our objectives were:
  • To control erosion processes.
  • To restructure the tracks.
  • To recover the environment, planting native species.
  • To promote community's participation and involvement.

  • Trilhas do Mirante project
IPESA, members of Pauba's Friends Society and member of the community together restructured tracks and planted native species at the Viewpoint.

The results were: reduction of erosive processes due to water action, increase of diversity of species, control of external agents such as fire, and the creation of a space for development of education and environment awareness activities in the Guapuruvu Place.
