AVEMARE's history begins with the work of collecting recyclable materials at Santana de Parnaiba's dumpsite. In 2000, with the support of the Secretary of Social Promotion, the Public Ministry of São Paulo, Alphaville Foundation and the city government, a process of organizing collector groups, in order to capacitate and facilitate the works, started happening at the shed of recyclable materials classification in April 17th, 2006.
IPESA's crew began working with AVEMARE in the second semester of 2005, through a project aimed to capacitate collectors and develop a group of environment education, which then became responsible for implementing the program "Our Garbage - Recycling Citizenship".
This program was created with the purpose of developing awareness, disseminate the work and promote expansion of source separation curb side collection.
During the campaigns, AVEMARE's work is presented through an institutional video and a lecture given by members that also inform people about recyclable materials, how they should be prepared, how to make them available for collection and the consequent contribution to social and environment of these actions.
Activities of the Environment Education Group are a strategic plan developed at the capacitation classes. IPESA and the group defined objectives, procedures, agenda of activities and materials, and that lead to the project named " AVEMARE's Strategic Planning for Expansion of Source Separation Curb Side Collection".
Some of the issues covered are: processes and strategies for promoting and expanding source selection, collection logistics, infrastructure, materials, communication means, target public definition, etc.
Guided by this strategic plan, the environment education group started acting trough three programs:
Our Garbage Program - Residence and Commerce Project.
Our Garbage Program - Corporative Project
Our Garbage Program - School Project
The main objective of capacitating this group is that collectors become promoters of the environment education developed for inhabitants of Santana do Parnaíba.
In 2008, IPESA and AVEMARE's work was extended and now we also run the administration and production capacitation of the cooperative, always focusing on teaching for the autonomy of the group.
